EKSU Ladies Tech Day (on International Women's Day 2015) by WTM EKSU powered by GDG EKSU

We held our #IWD15 event which we tagged "EKSU Ladies TechDay" on Tuesday 17th of March 2015. Women Tech Makers is new in the school, and this was its first event. With the theme for the event being "Connect. Create. Celebrate"; Our aim was to create awareness of the group; celebrate successful women already in the industry, encourage, inspire, and introduce ladies to developing, designing, and make them more interested in technology generally; and also to get more members for the WTM EKSU.
ATTENDANCE.
                In total, we had:
4 female guest speakers,
86 participants;
                54 ladies,
                32 men.
EVENT DETAILS.
The event started around 10:00am with registration of participants by the GDG EKSU Inner circle members (GDG EKSU IC). By 10:30am, the opening/welcome speech was taken by the GDG Manager - Awosupin Olalere  Solomon and GDG Co-Manager/ WTM Lead - Egwu Sarah. Then we invited the guests to the high table, and the official welcome video was played.
By 11;00am, we had the About Session (about the event, WTM, GDGEKSU, IWD, etc), which was taken by the WTM Leads, Egwu Sarah, and Obielodan Yemisi. Then, our first guest speaker, Prof (Mrs) Ogunlade Ibiyinka, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Ekiti State University, delivered a speech on "The Influence of Women in Technology", after which we played some videos from the women techmakers website.
Our second guest speaker from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Ekiti State, Mrs M.O. Ayodele, spoke on the "Societal Misconceptions of Women in Technology". Then we had a quiz, which was tagged "Discovering Miss Technology EKSU", anchored by a GDG EKSU IC Member, Ayoola Oluwatosin, and after the quiz, we had our guest speakers present the gifts to the winners.
Dr (Mrs) Odunyemi, our third guest speaker talked aboutentrepreneurship, and how we can empower ourselves even with technology, after which we played some videos. Then we had our fourth guest speaker, Prof (Mrs) Olabisi Aina, Director for Gender and Development Studies, Ekiti State University (also mother to a Googler @ Ng office), who talked about "Ladies: Embracing Technologies and its Opportunities".
The GDG manager then talked about Google Technologies, and one of the WTM Leads, Obielodan Yemisi talked about the "Opportunities available for students in the technology world today". Egwu Sarah , WTM Lead, anchored the app exhibition, where some GDG members came to exhibit and talk about what they work on, and what they've created.
The event came to an end around 3:00pm with the vote of thanks, photographs, and playing of more inspiring videos.
CHALLENGES
We had to change our event date, which made the event planning more stressful, and we got less than our expected no of participants(having made much publicity) because of an impromptu break given by the school due to an indefinite industrial action by the university lecturers.

SUMMARY
We were able to gain a level of partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ekiti State; Ekiti State University Academic Unit, and Centre for Gender and Development Studies. There was no codelabs or hackathon, because most of the participant are newbies but a quiz instead. At the end of the event, the participants were really inspired and we got new members who joined the group.
Also, three ladies decided to join in our on-going study jams
Over 30 new woman-member of GDG Ekiti State University,

Our feedback was gotten via interviewing some participants and speakers.
