Droidery Challenge Participants during Google I/O '17 Extended EKSU



 
Google I/O ‘17 Extended Ekiti State University was organized with a singular objective; to provide developers in Ekiti State University with the unique feel of Google I/O by including amazing features and in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google technologies such as Machine Learning, Android, Firebase, TensorFlow, Google Assistant, Google AI SDK, Kotlin, etc, coupled with the Google I/O ‘17 viewing sessions.

The objective of this event was to expose members of GDG Ekiti State University to the new developer tools and technologies and provide exciting ways and insights to using them. Also, there was a Droidery Challenge, where participants were expected to build a ‘Single-Activity’ Android app, that solves a problem. These apps were to be showcased and judged during the event.
 


The result of this challenge was a tie between​ Andela​'s ALCEkiti​ beginners,​ Adebayo Pelumi​ and ​ Ayobami Ogunlade.
Adebayo Pelumi built 'SmartAd', an Android app that allows advertisers to;
upload pictures of their product, add description, price, contact details, and provide different built-in templates which styles them, and then turns them into bitmaps to be able to share to Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.
Her app ranked as the best app idea in the event.
Ayobami Ogunlade, who also happens to be a product of the recently concluded​ #CodenoniaCodecampSeriesEKSU​, ​ built 'RockPaperScissors', a simple game with the awesome Rock-Paper-Scissors logic between a player and the system.




  • 1st Place: SmartAd by Pelumi Adebayo
SmartAd is aimed at advertising product on social media, with the advert coming in different templates for users to choose and help them advertise their product fast and smart as it allows advertisers to upload pictures of their product, add description, price, contact details, and provide different built-in templates which styles them, and then turns them into bitmaps to be able to share to Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.
This app is a simple game with the awesome Rock-Paper-Scissors logic between a player and the system.
Laughtrick is targeted at helping mothers engage their kids while being busy with some other chore. It's an app with couple of fun smileys that changes and makes funny sounds as one clicks on them.
 
  • 3rd Place: ImageIt by Iyanu Bankole
The ImageIt app is designed to solve the problem of simple image search on utilising the google image search option. This app makes it easy to just take a picture or select from the gallery and with little description and then helps to get similar or matching results and further description.
Health tips provide health-related solutions and preventive measures.

In conclusion, the Google I/O ‘17 Extended held at the Ekiti State University ended up being a really successful event with lots of exciting metrics.
